Dating a leupold scope

We do not have any other riflescope manufacturing facilities or offices anywhere in the world.
So if you come across a Leupold riflescope being shipped into the United States from China, it is a very likely a counterfeit.
Take the time to brush up on little things that might impress it.
For instance, Leupold, although thought to be American, actually started life in Germany - so perhaps get a few bratworsts in, or slip into some comfortable lederhausen before even attempting to get it out of it's box. Take it out of it box and admire the paperwork, lens cloths, guarantees and packaging.
Scopes using a letter as a suffix (the end of the serial number) have been produced after 1992.
On the chart below, you will notice the letters I, O, and Q have been omitted as they are easily mistaken for 1, 0, and 0 respectively.

Any scope without a letter in the serial number was produced before 1974.
After this, place it one side - don't be clingy - and tidy away it's box and packaging somewhere safe. I've treated many a Leupold in this way and have had them let me leave their turrets uncovered, reparrallax them, change their turret covers and even had a couple agree to have their power boosted - cor, that was a scope I'll tell you All the best - Craig ( They made me do it ) Steyr LG100 FT barley twist March X 5/50x56 MTR-3 Steyr LP10 Anschutz 9003 March f mml Steyr 2014 hft March x 8-80 silver Steyr LG1 March F 10/60x52.

Make your choice carefully, Leupold's aren't something to think of lightly, they can and most probably will, be with you for a long time - dating a Leupold certainly isn't a one-shot-stand kind of thing.
I've found that Leupold's love to be treated and adorned with gifts - this may sound expensive at first but the rewards are well worth the effort mate - trust me on this one So buy it a set of quality mounts or a pair of those nice aluminium flip up Butler Creeks - I once treated a Leupold I had to an ARD device, believe me - it practically threw itself to my eye afterwards! After making the choice, lay it gently in the back seat of your car or if you've gone for one of those mail order jobs, impress it further by having it travell First Class/Insured delivery.Counterfeit scopes often use a fake serial number, all identical serial numbers, or incorrect numbering convention.
