Dean attended Melbourne High School, a select-entry high school for boys, finishing his Victorian Certificate of Education from MHS in 2004, but did not pursue higher education, as he was by his own admission, "not made for school".

Dean released his first single "If You Don't Mean It" which premiered on radio stations on 5 April 2007. The album quickly dropped on the charts and a second single was not released.
In late 2007, Dean toured as a supporting act across Australia for ARIA Award-winning music duo The Veronicas on their "Hook Me Up" Tour.
