Ubuntu ddclient not updating
Dynamic DNS allows domain names registered with Euro DNS to be assigned to a computer with a dynamic IP address.
Most Internet Service Providers (ISPs) provide customers with a dynamic IP address.
Thanks to Kate Russell (@katerussel) and the BBC for the link. Also thanks to those who left comments prompting me to review this page, most recently Jeff, Jason, and Matt Menary.
For the last few years I have been using ddclient and the free dynamic dns service from Dyn to facilitate remote access to my home Linux machine.
Here are alternative ways to control the daemon: ps -A f | grep -i ddclient sudo pkill ddclient Delete the cache to trick the daemon into updating the DNS entry for debugging purposes (during normal operation the DNS entry is only updated if the current IP address is different from the IP address stored in the cache): sudo pkill ddclient sudo rm /var/cache/ddclient/ddclient.cache sudo service ddclient start # See the result: tail /var/log/syslog # If you have set up mail=..., you should also receive an e-mail.I thought I would update this post to better serve the readers.##tell ddclient how to get your ip address use=web, web=ip.#provide server and login details protocol=changeip ssl=yes server=nic.changeip.com/nic/update login=your Login password=your Password #specify the domain to update your.lines as ddclient has reasonable defaults for these.
